ICD-10-CM Code Book

Your Guide To Using Your ICD-10-CM Code Book

Introduction:

My #1 saying is, “Love your Code Book and it will love you back with the right answer”! I really do believe this.

When you love “someone”, you want to learn all about “them”. You spend time with this “someone” and you get to know them.

That is what I did with my Code Books. I learned all about them. I spent a lot of time in them and really got to know them. When I would go places that I knew I would have time to read, I took one of my Code Books with me. I even took my Code Books with me to my doctor appointments and was offered a job more than once, when my doctor and/or his staff saw my Code Books.

How well do you know your Code Books?

I can remember, taking my CPC Exam and getting to a medical terminology question and not knowing what the medical term meant. I knew my Code Book had pictures, diagrams, and even descriptions of conditions. So, I looked up the medical term in the Alphabetic Index of my Code Book and found the meaning of the medical term to be able to answer that question correctly.

Tabbing My Code Books

I got to know my Code Books so well that I ended up removing the tabs in my book. I do recommend in the beginning, when getting to know your Code Book, to tab it. The goal of tabbing your Code Book is to help you locate the different sections of the Code Book. I can even remember, while I was taking my actual CPC Exam for Certification, removing my tabs from my book. They were in my way and caused my pages to stick together! I definitely, did not need that problem while testing. I then realized I did not need my tabs anymore. I had gotten to know my Code Books so well that I no longer needed my “training wheels” or tabs.

Medical Coding Books

So, if you want to get to know your Code Books so well that your fingers know exactly where to go without the tabs, join me. I created a short online course called, “Lunch & Learn: How To Use Your ICD-10-CM Code Book”. This course is short enough to be covered over a lunch break and costs the amount of what you would pay for lunch. It comes with a Workbook to complete as you take the course. The link to the online course is: https://codemastercoach-s-school.thinkific.com/courses/lunch-learn-how-to-use-your-icd-10-cm-code-book

I also created an eBook of the “Lunch & Learn: How to Use Your ICD-10-CM Code Book”, because I realize not everyone enjoys taking an online course and would prefer a book instead: https://codemastercoach.gumroad.com/l/vhvymg
